Vor Frue Kirke, or Church of Our Lady, is the Copenhagen Cathedral, and there has been a church on this site since the early 1200s. The current church stands as a reconstruction after the English bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807. The church was designed by the architect C. F. Hansen in a Neoclassical style with clear references to antiquity. Inside, the renowned sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen created the large figure of Christ at the altar and the twelve apostles along the nave. The interior of the church is grand and pure in expression, with its white vaulting.
